Another great part about finding out what we're having is getting to buy things for the nursery! I had two in mind and when she said "it's a boy!" I knew just what I wanted to do.
- Walls: We're painting the walls a light gray. Benjamin Moore's Gray Horse to be exact. I found this while searching for color schemes and it seems to have just the shade I'm looking for. In fact, I want to say that a few other friends have used that color as well because it sounds so familiar.
- Curtains: I'm still not 100% on these yet, but I ordered a few swatches to make sure. If it's the color on the screen, then I'm sold--but I gotta make sure it has some green in the blue.
- Focal point: I love the idea of painting your favorite poem or saying on an oversized canvas. But to fit the feel I want for the room, I'm planning on doing more of this concept and stain the wood a dark finish, and then paint with white or use white shoe polish to paint a verse on it.
- Blankets: I'm on the hunt for an old ladder to put blankets on--the blankets will add other colors to the room to keep it less monochromatic.
- Bedding: I didn't want the bed to be the focal point of the room, so I'm planning on just finding some cute sheets (and lots of them) and then getting a white bed shirt and be done. In fact, I keep getting emails from different sites saying that bumpers are no longer recommended for cribs and that they can be a safety hazard, so that just makes it easier for me to justify not getting one!
- Dresser/Changing Station: I saw this dresser at Wal-Mart for super cheap and plan on getting it to put a changing pad on and all the secures that come with a makeshift station. That way we won't be stuck with a changing table but can use the dresser for years after. I'll probably even switch out the handles.
- Rug: This was probably the first thing I knew I wanted for a nursery. I saw a bigger one online that I'm planning on getting, so it will take up a bit more of the room. I just love how soft sheep skin rugs are and how nice they feel.
- DIY art: I'm very aware that I could buy similar prints online, but why spend the money when I can create the art myself? I have another project that I'm getting help with and I can't wait to see how they turn out. I think any art you have should reflect you or your home, so I'm excited to see how it all comes together.
- Baskets: Baskets are my favorite way to bring texture into a room. Whether if it holds blankets, toys, or books, I'm sure I'll have a bigger one to go by the crib and a few spread throughout the room.
- Crib: Last but not least, the crib! The crib pictured isn't what we're getting. This is:
Ta-da! I found this crib the other day after searching for months and knew it was just what I wanted. I wanted a white crib, with no back, straight lines, with an espresso accent. And one that obviously met all the necessary standards of safety. Since we plan on having another baby eventually it wasn't as important that it turn into a toddler bed because I'm sure once we have a toddler, we'll be using this crib again! But it has that option with everything included, so that was a nice bonus.
One of the things not pictured is a rocker. We're still looking for that and recently decided what kind to get. There are so many options that come with picking out things for a baby room.
Now I'm off to go sell a few organs just so I can afford all the things for this room!
